The Lido Civic Club is an organization which has been in existence since 1929, bound together by Italian-American heritage and culture. The club's first formal meeting at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC featured Fiorello LaGuardia, the "Little Flower," as guest speaker. The Lido Civic Club membership has been and continues to be socially and economically diverse. It spans multiple generations. The Lido Civic Club is an organization keenly aware of its civic and social responsibilities to the community. Over the years the club has helped many students achieve a good education and sound careers through the award of scholarship funds. The mission of the society is to enhance the appreciation and knowledge of Italian language and culture in the Washington, DC area. It creates opportunities to explore the many facets of Italian culture, and to strengthen bonds between the Italian and American people. We welcome everyone, regardless of race, national origin or religion. The only requirement for membership is an interest in Italian culture and a desire to share that interest with others.
