By Francesco Isgrò

Retired Master Gunnery Sergeant Patricia Orsini, a Holy Rosary Church parishioner, has been named as Director of the House Wounded Warrior program, established at the direction of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and Committee on House Administration Chairman Rep. Robert Brady.

Orsini has spent most of her career supporting her fellow Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen, by helping them return to civilian life and to find jobs when they are injured and disabled. In her new position, she will continue to answer the call to Patricia Orsiniservice, helping to establish and supervise the House’s new program aimed at finding wounded veterans jobs working in the House.

She has served more than 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps in a variety of positions, including assisting active duty and reserve Marines with medical benefits. After retiring from active duty in 2002, she worked for the American Legion and for the Veterans Administration as a service representative.

“I’m excited to put together this wonderful program, which will find jobs for wounded warriors at a time when they most need the support of the nation they fought for when they return from war,” Orsini said.

Orsinini’s paternal grandparents emigrated from Italy. Her grandfather Giovanni Orsini arrived from Cosenza, Calabria, in 1916 at the age of 16. and her grandmother arrived in 1915 from Lecce, Puglia at 17.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, Orsini told Voce Italiana, that she “continuously studies Italian with the hope of one day becoming fluent.” She is a member of the Abruzzo Molise Heritage Society. A frequent traveler to Italy, she most recently spent eight days in Taormina, Sicily. 
